چکیده

In this paper, we describe and evaluate a mechanism for ltering RTCP receiver reports sent from receivers to the whole session. In large multi-cast groups, such feedbacks could induce network congestion, receivers overload and feedback delay. The proposed ltering mechanism provides a clas-siication of receivers according to a predeened similarity measure (e.g. packet loss rate observed or TCP-friendly bandwidth share). This mechanism could be used for example by layered transmission schemes in which coders adapt dynamically the number and the rate of layers according to clusters of receivers.

An Evaluation of Preference Clustering in Large-Scale Multicast Applications

The efficiency of using multicast in multi-party applications is constrained by preference heterogeneity, where receivers range in their preferences for application data. We examine an approach in which approximately similar sources and receivers are clustered into multicast groups. The goal is to maximize preference overlap within each group while satisfying the constraint of limited network r...

Interference-Aware and Cluster Based Multicast Routing in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks

Multicast routing is one of the most important services in Multi Radio Multi Channel (MRMC) Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN). Multicast routing performance in WMNs could be improved by choosing the best routes and the routes that have minimum interference to reach multicast receivers. In this paper we want to address the multicast routing problem for a given channel assignment in WMNs. The channels...

Center placement algorithms for large multicast groups

An increasing number of distributed applications require a speci c form of multicast called dissemination, in which a single source reliably transfers data to multiple receivers. Reliability requires that data packets are acknowledged positively or negatively, which leads for large groups of receivers (100s or 1000s of participants) to the problem of feedback implosion. Among the approaches try...

TCP-compatible rate control for FGS layered multicast video transmission based on a clustering algorithm

This paper addresses the problem of rate and congestion control for video transmission in large multicast groups. A classification of the receivers is performed according to a predefined similarity measure (e.g. packet loss rate observed or TCP-friendly bandwidth share). The RTCP receiver reports are then filtered accordingly. The classification of receivers done by feedback aggregation agents ...

A Preference Clustering Protocol for Large-Scale Multicast Applications

IP Multicast has enabled a variety of large-scale applications on the Internet which would otherwise bombard the network and the content servers if unicast communication was used. However, the eeciency of multicast is often constrained by preference heterogeneity, where receivers range in their preferences for application data. We examine an approach in which approximately similar preferences a...
